Men's Soccer Falls to East Ave Rival

The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team fell to visiting East Ave Rival Nazareth College 3-0 on Friday evening. With the loss the Cardinals record goes to 3-7-1 overall and 1-2-1 in Empire 8 Conference play. Nazareth improves to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

Nazareth took control in the second half after a stalemate between the two squads in the first stanza. The Golden Flyers struck first in the 62nd minute when Luke Elston scored a cross from Ryan Foley on a basically open net as Fisher keeper was drawn out of the goal. That was the only score that Nazareth would need although they added two more in the remainder of the half.

The first half was balanced statistically with both teams taking five shots, both awarded two corner kicks and each goalkeeper recording two saves. Both teams had ample opportunities to score but could not find the back of the net.

In the 21st minute Fisher junior Austin Buckley sent a pass to Mike Lynch who shot a blast towards the upper left 90, missing by inches to remain tied. Later in the 39th minute the Cardinals had a breakaway lined up for Stefan John but Nazareth goalie Kyle Connolly sprinted to a slide and stole the ball right off John's foot.

Nazareth had its chances as well, having Scott Duarte streaking into the box twice but he could not settle the shots, missing wide on both attempts.

The Cardinals will return to action at 4 p.m. on Tuesday when they travel to R.I.T. to face the Tigers in a non-conference matchup.
