The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team
drew a 2-2 tie against the visiting SUNY Geneseo Knights in a rainy match today at the Polisseni Track and Field Complex. The game was the first played at the new grass complex.
With the tie, Fisher is now 3-9-3 on the season, while Geneseo moves to 8-6-3.
Sophomore
Philip Brogan got the Cardinals on the board first after heading in a free kick from
Matt Silvi. Fisher was granted the kick following a Geneseo foul near the right end line, and Silvi was able to find Brogan for the opening tally.
However, the Knights answered and were able to create a 1-1 tie going into halftime. Ian Mort responded with a header of his own that bounced in to the left of Fisher goaltender
Kyle Metcalfe.
Exactly one minute into the second half,
Nick Calo put the Cardinals on top again, this time finishing on a Garrett Varin cross.
But, Geneseo responded just nine minute later with Ken DiDonna flipping one past Metcalfe. Craig Schackner was given his second assist of the day on the goal.
After two overtime periods, neither team was able to break the tie.
Metcalfe finished the day with 10 saves, while Nick Voggel made two for Geneseo.
Fisher will conclude its 2011 season at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday when they host the Alfred University Saxons. Prior to the match, Fisher will recognize its seniors, as the game will be their contest at Growney Stadium.
