The St. John Fisher College
field hockey team dropped a close 3-1 decision to the College at Brockport on Tuesday night at Growney Stadium. With the loss the Cardinals fall to 1-13 on the season.
Trailing 1-0 early in the game, Fisher's
Alexis Zakala scored on a pass from
Marissa Vedella for the equalizer in the 10
th minute, just 39 seconds after Brockport opened the scoring.
However, Ashley Elmes deflected a shot past Cardinal keeper
Kellie Redmond for the game-winning goal in the 25
th minute.
In the second half Kelly-Ann Henry added an insurance goal for the Golden Eagles in the 62
nd minute when a shot bounced off Redmond's pad and snuck into the net.
Redmond finished with five stops while Zakala and
Stacie Skidmore each took three shots in the game. Statistically the Cardinals played right with Brockport, taking just one less shot on goal than the Golden Eagles.
Fisher will return to action at 12 p.m. on Saturday when it hosts East Ave Rival Nazareth College in a conference matchup at Growney Stadium.
