With a decisive
7-2 win over Empire 8 contender Elmira College, the St. John Fisher College women's tennis team improved to 2-0 in conference play on the season.
The Cardinals opened the match with wins at all three doubles positions, only dropping three games between the three matches.
Elena Vahl paired with Kathryn Pasier to record an 8-0 shutout at first doubles, while
Marissa Rotondo and
Haley Strowe cruised to an 8-1 victory at second doubles. At third,
Katelyn Smith and partner
Jordan Brungard tallied an 8-2 win.
In doubles action, Vahl dropped one game en route to a 6-0, 6-1 win at first, while Smith worked to a three-set (2-6, 6-1, 6-1) win at third for the deciding point. Brungard and Strowe also tallied singles wins.
Fisher, now 2-1 overall, returns to action as it hosts neighboring rival and Empire 8 opponent R.I.T. on Thursday, September 16 at the Fisher Courts.
