Baseball Hangs On To Beat U. of Rochester

Steve Karnyski picked up three hits in Wednesday's win and was one of three Cardinals to homer.
The St. John Fisher College baseball team jumped out to an 8-2 lead and held on to beat host University of Rochester 8-7 in a nine-inning non-conference game on Wednesday.

With the win, Fisher improves to 11-8, while Rochester falls to 14-4.

The Cardinals used six pitchers in the contest with Brandon Lewis earning the win.  Tim Johnson picked up the save.  The sophomore reliever allowed one run, but recorded the final five outs, including a fly out to right with the tying run on third to end the game.

Steve Karnyski, Leo Fusilli and Jon Gibbs each homered in the win.   Karnyski finished with three hits and two runs scored, while Fusilli went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.  Gibbs hit a two-run shot to left-center in a four-run fifth inning.  Kevin Wing went 2-for-4, while Phil Pettinella and Teagen Barresi each went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
