The St. John Fisher College baseball team
throttled the University of Rochester 10-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Dugan Yard. With the win, Fisher improves to 22-10 on the season.
Senior
Mike Craig pitched seven solid innings for the Cardinals, giving up just one earned run while scattering eight hits and striking out two Yellowjackets to earn the victory. Classmate
Dan Jurik came in for relief in the eighth, surrendering no hits, earning a strikeout and inducing a double play. Fellow senior
Geoff Martone closed out the ninth for Fisher, giving up no earned runs while fanning two.
At the plate it was a big day for another senior,
Jon Gibbs, as he went 3-for-3 with a home run and two ground-rule doubles. Gibbs finished the day with four RBI and two runs scored.
Phil Pettinella also had three hits, crossing the plate twice and stealing a base.
Fisher will return to action tomorrow when it travels for a single game beginning at 4 p.m. versus SUNY Cortland.
