Freshman
Ben Bostick went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and four RBI
to lead the St. John Fisher College baseball team to a 12-9 win over host College at Brockport on Wednesday.
With the win, Fisher improves to 20-9 overall, marking the seventh straight year the Cardinals have won 20 or more games in a season. Fisher is 13-1 in its last 14 games. Its nine losses on the year have been by a total of 11 runs (eight one-run losses and three, two-run defeats).
Bostick needed just a double to hit for the cycle. After singling in the first, he tripled in a run in the third inning and homered in the fifth inning, sparking a four-run fifth frame that put Fisher up 7-1.
Fisher led 12-3 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Golden Eagles nearly rallied. Brockport scored two in the seventh inning and added four more runs (all unearned) in the eighth frame, but had the inning end with the bases loaded.
Brockport scored one run in the ninth and had the tying run on base, but freshman Adam Pettinella induced a groundout with the bases loaded again to earn his first career save.
The Cardinals won the game, despite committing a season-high six errors and stranding 14 runners.
Geoff Martone earned his third win on the mound. The senior pitched four innings and allowed just three hits and two runs.
Fisher will return to action this weekend and will host Ithaca College for a four-game series at Fisher's Dugan Yard.
