Men's Soccer Comes Up Just Short Vs. SLU

St. Lawrence University knocked off St. John Fisher College, 3-1, at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds in Watertown, NY on Wednesday evening in men's soccer action.

The victory moved the Scarlet and Brown to 9-2-1 on the season and extended the team's unbeaten streak to eight games (7-0-1). Meanwhile, Fisher fell to 2-9-2 on the season after being outshot 21-7.

The Saints took the lead in the fourth minute of the game.

Fisher would respond to the goal well, though, and created a few scoring tries of their own. They finally cashed in at 40:39 off of a free kick.  Chris Maxwell sent a blast towards St. Lawrence keeper Nate Goss-Woliner, but the ball deflected off of a Saint defender right to Garhett Varin, who sent a left-footed kick under the cross bar for the equalizer to cap the first half scoring.

Despite the Cardinals' best efforts to slow down the St. Lawrence attack in the second half, the Saints generated chance after chance before regaining a 2-1 lead in the 57th minute. After Fisher nearly took a lead of their own on a long, bending shot by William Salter, a Fisher defender misplayed the ball along the sideline allowing St. Lawrence to take the lead for good.

The Scarlet and Brown tacked on an insurance goal at 89:50.
