Baseball Survives Brockport

Sophomore Leo Fusilli went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored in Fisher's 6-5 win over Brockport on Wednesday.

After holding a 6-1 lead in the eighth, the St. John Fisher College baseball team (7-4) hung on for a 6-5 win over the College at Brockport on Wednesday at Dugan Yard.

Fisher erased a one-run deficit with a trio of runs in the bottom of the third and added runs in the fifth and sixth frames to take a 6-1 lead. Brockport rallied, however, plating four runs on two hits and an error to cut the host Cardinals' lead to one in the top of the eighth. After back-to-back walks put two on with one out, Brockport's Mike Goldstein singled to bring in two runs before the Golden Eagles took advantage of an error and a wild pitch to score two more.

Brockport moved the tying run into scoring position with two outs in the ninth, but junior Andrew Van Slyke, who picked up his second save of the season, induced a groundout to second base to end the game.

Teagen Barresi went 2-for-3 with a walk in the win, while fLeo Fusilli (two RBI, one run scored) and Steve Karnyski (one, one) each went 2-for-4.

Geoff Martone scattered four hits through five innings and struck out five batters to earn his first win of the year.

Fisher will travel to Hoboken, NJ to battle Stevens Institute of Technology.  The two schools will play doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
