The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team defeated rival Nazareth College today in the team's opening Empire 8 Conference season opener. Fisher scored the first two goals of the game and never surrendered the lead enroute to a 5-3 victory.
The Cardinals got the scoring going in the 18
th minute, when
Brad Ervin scored the first of his two goals on an assist from
Ryan Palmer. Fisher doubled its lead when
Andrew McIntosh went to goal alone in the 26
th minute before the Golden Flyers got on the scoreboard just four minutes later.
In the second half, the Cardinals outscored Nazareth 3-2 to preserve the win. The Golden Flyers, who saw Fisher's lead increase to two goals on another goal from Ervin in the 55th minute, pulled within reach of the Cardinals with a goal just 30 seconds later.
Fisher answered back with authority however, increasing the lead with a goal in the 66
th minute, and sealing the win with an insurance goal in the 76
th.
Robert Wick found
Luke Lennox for the first goal, and added the final goal himself on a pass from Palmer.

Adam Durst made seven saves, including six in the second half.
Fisher will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday to take on host Stevens Institute of Technology.
