No. 7 Hobart Rallies to Top Men's Soccer 2-1

Andrew McIntosh (left) and Brad Ervin each notched three shots in the loss to No. 7 Hobart.
The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team held a 1-0 lead for the majority of the first half over seventh-ranked Hobart, but two goals in a three-minute span lifted the visiting Statesmen to a 2-1 win on Tuesday night.

Just three minutes into the contest, Luke Lennox sent a cross from the right sidelines to Michael Rooney, who sent the ball past the keeper with a sliding touch into the upper left corner to give the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage.

The Statesmen appeared to tie the game in the 17th minute, but had a would-be goal taken off the board with an offside call, and missed another opportunity to tie the game just a minute later when Hobart's Phillip Schoeniger sent a shot just wide of the goal.

In a wild turn of events in the 41st minute, Fisher nearly took a 2-0 lead on the Statesmen when Lennox scored off a pass from Ryan Hefner, but the goal was erased with another offside call. On the restart, Statesmen goalie Pete Van Dellon booted the ball well past midfield where Tommy Hayes fielded a quick pass from Michael Moulton and tied the game at one all.

Just 3:15 later, Hobart scored the game-winner off a cross near the end line that Dan Riso put home in the lower right corner.

Adam Durst made seven saves and punched away several other Hobart chances to score, with Lennox and Rooney notching the goal and assist for Fisher, respectively.

The Cardinals (1-5) will return to action Saturday September 20 to take on host St. Joseph's College.
