The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team fell to 1-3 on the season with a
2-1 loss to No. 27 University of Rochester Yellowjackets on Wednesday night under the lights of Fisher's Growney Stadium.
The Cardinals tied the game at one all in the 84
th minute when junior standout
Luke Lennox fielded a long pass, outran a defender and juked the keeper before scoring with a low blast down the middle.
The Yellowjackets answered quickly, putting the game just out of reach when Rochester's Sean Hantes scored his second goal of the game just 68 seconds later.
Rochester took its initial lead in the 23
rd minute, when
Hantes settled a pass through the box from
Misha Carrel-Thomas and beat Fisher keeper
Adam Durst with a shot to the lower right corner to give Rochester the advantage.
After a physical first half, the Cardinals came out strong in the second half and had several scoring chances, but failed to net a goal.
Lennox recorded the only goal of the game for the Cardinals, and made a game-high four shots on goal. Fisher goalie Durst made a game-high six saves in the loss.
Fisher (2-2) will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday against host No. 22 SUNY Plattsburgh.
