The St. John Fisher women's soccer team
defeated Empire 8 opponent Hartwick on Sunday afternoon, 5-0. The victory finished off a great weekend for the Cardinals, who picked up two wins in Empire 8 play with a win in overtime against Utica on Saturday, and the shutout decision over Hartwick on Sunday.
Fisher displayed an offensive flurry in the first half, starting in the third minute of play when
Megan Gee scored off a saved
Kelly Zeppetella shot.
In the 13
th minute of play the Cardinals blew the game open with two goals that came just 46 seconds apart. Junior midfielder
Mary Dougherty scored the first goal in the 13
th minute when she fired a shot from the top left corner of the 18-yard box that ricocheted in off the Hartwick keeper. The second goal of the 13
th minute came on a corner kick from
Sarah Bihl which was headed in by freshman defense/midfield
Nichole Clark for her first career goal.
The last goal of the first half for the Cardinals came on the freshman connection of
Kaitlin Moran and
Alyssa Golding, when Golding's pass was chipped in to an empty net by Moran, marking her first career goal.
Gee added her second goal of the game and closed out the scoring in the second half when she put a pass from Clark off the post and in. Goalkeeper
Ashley Martin totaled four saves and earned the win in goal.
Fisher will return to action at home next Saturday when they take on Empire 8 foe Elmira College at 4 p.m.
