St. John Fisher University Athletics

St. John Fisher College’s Paige Willson (Griffith Institute/East Concord) of the women’s track and field team has been named as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 3, 2013. 

On Saturday the Cardinals traveled to the Brockport Invitational where Willson set a new Fisher record with her performance in the women’s shot put. In a third place finish, the sophomore hurled a distance of 11.71 meters, her personal best.  The record-performance earned six points for a Cardinals team that finished 11th overall.

In addition to setting a College record, the distance was enough to qualify Willson for the ECAC Championship that will be hosted on March 1st at the Armory Track and Field Center in New York City.

The throw broke Willson’s personal best by .51 meters which she set last season at the Empire 8 Indoor Championship.  In that event, Willson threw 11.20 meters to take second place.

Both the women’s and men’s teams will travel to Hamilton College on Saturday to participate in the Hamilton Invite.
