St. John Fisher College’s Christopher Wehner (Cooperstown/Hartwick), a freshman on the men’s track and field team, has been named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 15, 2012.
In Saturday’s meet at Rochester Institute of Technology, Wehner advanced to the finals of the 60-meter hurdles after posting a time of 9.17 seconds in the preliminary round. In the finals, Wehner finished in third place with a time of 8.95 seconds, barely missing the ECAC required time of 8.55 seconds.
The finish was a career-best for Wehner who, earlier in the season, placed sixth and posted a 9.00 second time in the same event at the RIT Early Season Invitational.
The freshman also competed in the 60-meter dash, finishing in 31st place with a time of 7.95 seconds.
Both the men’s and women’s track and field teams will return to action on Saturday when they participate in the St. Lawrence University Invitational.
