PITTSFORD, N.Y., March 12, 2012 — St. John Fisher College’s Matt Klock (Grand Island/Grand Island), a senior on the baseball, has been named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 11, 2012. The right fielder has also been named the Empire 8 Conference's Player of the Week.
In a 4-1 week for the Cardinals, Klock hit a .500 (12-for-24), had an on-base percentage of .538 and a slugging percentage of .833. The senior drove in nine runs for Fisher while scoring seven times. He had four extra-base hits (two doubles and two home runs) while walking twice, only striking out twice and earning one sacrifice fly.
Klock’s best game came in the most important outing of the team’s trip down to Winter Haven, FL for the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational at the Chain of Lakes Park. The game was against Aurora University, who has been to the NCAA Division III World Series nine times. The Cardinals and the Spartans played 15 innings on two different fields for nearly five hours before Fisher mustered a run with two outs to earn the 11-10 victory. In the game, Klock went 6-for-8 with three RBI, two runs scored and a double.
Fisher went 6-2 down in Florida and came back to New York with an 8-2 overall mark. The Cardinals will take that record to Ohio this weekend at 1 p.m. on Sunday when they play against Westminster College (PA) in a neutral site doubleheader.
