Justin D’Amato (Canandaigua Academy/Canandaigua) of the St. John Fisher College baseball team has been selected as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending May 8, 2011.

In a 1-1 week for the Cardinals in which Fisher split a doubleheader with Ithaca College, D’Amato tossed a complete-game three-hitter with eight strikeouts to lift the nationally-ranked baseball program to a 5-0 win over the hosting Bombers in the nightcap.

D'Amato, who fanned seven of the first nine batters he faced and had a one-hitter going into the final inning, improved his overall record to 9-1 on the year, tying the College-record for wins in a season. The win marked the freshman’s third shutout of the season as well.

The Cardinals, now 25-7 overall and ranked 24th in the latest national coaches’ poll, face Penn State-Behrend at Dugan Yard for a single game match-up at 3 p.m. on Monday.
