St. John Fisher College’s Chaz Lott (Christian Brothers Academy/Wynantskill) of the men’s basketball team has been named as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 1, 2015.
Lott earned All-Championship on Saturday after helping guide the Cardinals to an Empire 8 Conference Championship title. Over a two-game span, the point guard averaged 16.5 points, 8.0 assists and 5.5 rebounds, while shooting 15-of-22 (68.2%) from the floor.
In Friday’s 90-75 win over visiting Ithaca College in the Championship Semifinals, Lott tallied 17 of his season-high 23 points in the second half to pace the Cardinals to the finals.
In Saturday’s title game, the junior dished out a career-high 12 assists, while adding 10 points and seven boards, as the Cardinals pulled away for a 77-62 victory over second-seeded Alfred University.
With the win, Fisher, ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Division III East Region and No. 24 nationally, earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship. Fisher (23-4) will find out Monday who and where it will play in the 62-team national tournament.
For the season, Lott, who was named to the Empire 8 All-Conference First Team, leads the Empire 8 and ranks among the national leaders in assists per game (5.9). He’s also averaging 9.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, while shooting 52.1% from the floor.
