St. John Fisher College’s Mary Kate Cusack (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) of the women’s basketball team has been named as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 22.
The junior guard averaged 16 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 4.0 steals and 0.7 blocks as the Cardinals closed out the regular season with a 2-1 week.
Cusack, who entered the week needing just six points to score 1,000 career points, reached the historic milestone in Fisher’s 82-55 win over host Alfred University on Tuesday. She totaled 17 points with three steals and two assists to accomplish the 1,000-point feat as the 22nd player in the 41-year history of the women’s basketball program.
Cusack tallied another 17 points on Friday, shooting 5-of-9 from the floor, with five steals and three assists in Fisher’s 74-57 victory over host Hartwick College.
She wrapped up the week with 14 points, four steals, three assists and two blocks as the Cardinals fell 73-64 to host Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday.
Fisher faces Stevens again at 8 p.m. Friday for the semifinal round of the Empire 8 Championship at host Ithaca College.
