Adam Ambielli (Notre Dame/Califon, NJ) of the St. John Fisher College men’s basketball team has been selected as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 1, 2015.
The senior guard shot 60.0% from the floor, including 4-for-4 from 3-point range against Utica, and 5-of-6 (83.3%) from the foul line, as the Cardinals pushed their winning streak to 15 games in a 2-0 week.
Ambielli put up 10 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out two assists as Fisher defeated East Ave rival Nazareth College 80-63 on Friday evening. He sparked a 24-2 run in the first half against Utica College on Saturday, draining 3-pointers on three consecutive possessions in a span of 64 seconds to help the Cardinals regain the lead. Ambielli finished with 12 points in just 19 minutes of play, as Fisher cruised to a 100-65 victory. In both games, he also tallied a steal.
Ambielli continues to lead the team in 3-point attempts and 3-pointers made, averaging 4.1 attempts per game and 1.7 made per game. Over his four years, he has netted 113 shots from beyond the arc, good for ninth in Fisher’s career standings for 3-point shooters.
Fisher, 17-2 overall and 10-0 in the Empire 8 Conference, will return to action at 8 p.m. Friday against visiting Elmira College.
