PITTSFORD, N.Y. – St. John Fisher women's track and field sprinter Abigail Dorunda has been named Empire 8 Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Monday morning. This marks the second consecutive week that Dorunda, a sophomore, has earned the honor.
Dorunda won the 100-meter run in the Ithaca College In-Between Meet on Saturday with a time of 12.29 seconds. She also placed second in the 200-meter run with a time of 25.41 seconds, the third-best 200 mark in program history.
Dorunda's strong performance in Ithaca came a week after she claimed Track Athlete of the Meet honors for the Empire 8 Outdoor Track and Field Championships. In that meet, she won the 100-meter dash with a program record time of 12.25 seconds and helped the Cardinals' 4x100 team, which also included Makenna Manson, Ella Radley and Emily Heiner, place first at 48.38 seconds. Additionally, she finished third in the 200-meter run (25.44 seconds), placed sixth in the 400-meter run (59.45 seconds) and was part of the 4x400-meter relay team that placed second (4:04.00).
Dorunda will compete in the Outdoor Atlantic Regional Championships May 13-14 at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa.
