PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's rowing team competed in the New York State Collegiate Championships over the weekend on Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs.
How It Happened
The Cardinals' Varsity 4 crew was placed in a tough opening heat that included a pair of Division I programs, Syracuse University and Long Island University. Fisher, which dealt with an equipment breakage midway through the race, finished fifth in the group with a time of 12:11.32.
That crew later competed in the Varsity 4 Third-Level Final and placed fourth at 10:28.72. Fisher's boat included Anna Winters (coxswain), Anna Foe (stroke seat), Coral Brown (three seat), Ally Wolgast (two seat) and Rhea Malmquist (bow seat).
The Cardinals' second Varsity 4 group competed against two boats from Colgate University and one each from Marist College and Union College. Facing headwinds that intensified as the race went on, the crew placed fifth in 13:07.
Fisher's lineup for that race included Samantha Macko, Izzy Haney, Lily Burke, Adalee DiMarco and Tenley Rodogna.
"With such a young team and only a limited time on the water this spring, the race experience will help immensely," coach Jon Covney said. "We were able to watch a lot of great racing and see high-level competition."
