Women's Golf Takes Fifth In Cortland Invite

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher women's golf team finished fifth out of 10 teams in the SUNY Cortland Spring Invite this weekend at the Cortland Country Club. 

The Cardinals finished the two-round tournament at +149 (725 strokes), shooting +80 on Saturday and +69 on Sunday. Ithaca (+66) placed first in the team race, while SUNY Cortland and Union (+104) finished in a tie for second. 

Top Performers

The Cardinals had three players finish in the top 20 – junior Sarah Burgess (T-15th), freshman Emma Sweazy (17th) and senior Paige Landers (T-18th). 

Burgess, who shot an 89 in both rounds, finished 34-over-par 178. She birdied the par-five 11th hole on Saturday and the par-four 10th hole on Sunday. 

Sweazy finished +36 (180 strokes) after carding a 92 on Saturday and an 88 on Sunday. She moved up three spots on the leaderboard during the final round. 

Landers was the Cardinals' top performer on Sunday, carding a 14-over par 86 to climb five spots on the leaderboard and finish 37-over 181 for the tournament. She shot a 95 on Saturday and recorded a birdie on the par-five fourth hole.

The Cardinals will compete in the Northeast Women's Golf Conference Tournament next Sunday and Monday.
