Women's Ice Hockey Rolls Hilbert To End Regular Season

FAIRPORT, N.Y. – Freshman forward Skylar MacLean scored twice as the St. John Fisher women's ice hockey team ended the regular season with a 9-1 thumping of Hilbert on Saturday at the Rochester Ice Center.

The Cardinals (12-12-1, 7-6-1 UCHC) secured the No. 5 seed for the UCHC Championship Tournament with the weekend sweep of the Hawks and will travel for a first-round matchup against No. 4-seeded Albertus Magnus at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Hilbert finished its season 1-23-1 overall (0-14-0 in UCHC).

The Cardinals got goals from eight different players and at least one point from 13 skaters in all. Sophomore defender Cordelia Wemyss tallied three assists – the most by a Fisher player in a game this season – and junior forward Cameran Evans had three points on a goal and two assists.

How It Happened

Fisher struck early and often, building a 3–0 lead in the first period behind goals from MacLean and freshmen forwards Cecelia Stewart and Sophie Grant.

Fisher extended its advantage in the second period on tallies from freshmen forwards Keira Reckley and Sienna Chin Gerding, whose goal marked the first of her collegiate career, before pulling away with four more scores in the final frame. Freshman forward Ellie Prantner opened the third‑period surge, and MacLean, Evans and freshman forward Nicole Doeringer each added on after that.

Hilbert broke through on a power play goal by Brooke Kwiecien at 7:16 of the third.

Freshman goaltender Elizabeth Poole stopped nine shots for Fisher, while Hilbert's Tia Card and Jewely Monford combined for 35 saves.
