FAIRPORT, NY - The St. John Fisher women's ice hockey team controlled the game from start to finish on Friday night, earning a dominant 8-0 win over UCHC rival Hilbert College.
Fisher improved to 11-12-1 (6-6-1 United Collegiate Hockey Conference) with the win, while Hilbert fell to 1-22-1 (0-13-0 United Collegiate Hockey Conference). Seven Cardinals scored in the contest and 12 players tallied points in all.
How It Happened
Junior forward Cameran Evans opened the scoring for Fisher at the 07:04 mark of the first period, taking a pass from freshman forward Sophie Grant in the slot and ripping it into the back of the net. The early tally was Evans' fifth of the season, while Grant improved her season totals to seven assists and 14 total points.Â
The Cardinals weren't done in the first, however, as freshman forward Cecelia Stewart found the net at the 13:59 mark on an assist from freshman forward Ellie Prantner. The first period scoring was rounded out with only nine seconds in the frame, as sophomore defender Cordelia Wemyss scored unassisted. The late goal gave Fisher a 3-0 lead heading into the first intermission.Â
Fisher picked up where they left off in the next period, as it took only 52 seconds for freshman forward Skylar MacLean to bury her first collegiate goal on the assist from freshman defender Brooklyn Joyce. The teams battled back and forth for nearly 10 minutes before the onslaught continued, as Prantner scored her fifth of the season off a pass from freshman forward Eibhleann Knox. The second period was punctuated with about six minutes left by Erin Lantry, as the freshman forward was assisted by MacLean and freshman forward Nicole Doeringer for her sixth goal of the season.Â
After the Cardinals took a commanding 6-0 lead into the third period, a 22-minute scoreless streak was broken with just over three minutes left in the game. Stewart ripped home her second of the game, earning her first collegiate multi-goal game. She was assisted on the goal by Knox and Joyce. As the one-minute warning rang through the speakers at Rochester Ice Center, freshman forward Keira Reckley sent home her team-leading 11th goal of the season on an assist from freshman defender Jailey Wilson, making the final score 8-0.
