Women's Ice Hockey Picks Up 3-1 Road Victory Against Buffalo State

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher women's hockey team returned to action after its holiday break with a 3-1 non-league, road victory over Buffalo State on Tuesday, improving to 4-6-1 overall. Buffalo State dropped to 8-5-0 with the loss.

How it Happened

The Cardinals struck early when Erin Lantry buried a feed from Cameran Evans less than two minutes into the opening period. Six minutes later, Cordelia Wemyss and Sophie Grant connected with Keira Reckley, who found the back of the net to extend the lead.

With just over five minutes remaining in the first period, Josie Palumbo finished a setup from Wemyss and Ellie Prantner to push the advantage to 3-0.

Arissa Vettraino scored to cut the deficit eight minutes into the second period, but strong Cardinals defense in both the second and third periods held the Bengals in check and preserved the victory.

Cardinals goaltender Brynn Bacak finished with 27 saves.

Game Notes

  • Lantry netted her first career collegiate goal.

  • Reckley now leads the Cardinals with four goals.

  • Weymss tallied two assists in a game for the first time in her collegiate career.
