Four Athletes Win Conference Titles For Men's Track and Field In E8 Outdoor Championships

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Hayden Penna, Brandon Kaplan, Manuel Sepulveda and Daniel Davis claimed conference championships in their respective events for the St. John Fisher men's track and field team in the Empire 8 Outdoor Championships at SUNY Brockport on Friday and Saturday. 

The Cardinals finished the two-day event in third place with 104 team points. SUNY Geneseo placed first (303.5 team points), and Brockport (199) took second. 

Penna tied the facility record and – for the second week in a row – broke the program record in the pole vault, placing first with a mark of 4.90m. He's won the E8 Outdoor Track and Field pole vault title two years in a row. 

In the hammer throw, Kaplan set meet and conference records and once again outdid his school record with a mark of 60.87m, winning the E8 title in the event for the second consecutive season. The Empire 8 named Kaplan its Field Athlete of the Meet on Saturday. 

Sepulveda won the triple jump with a leap of 14.58 meters, the third-best mark in the event in program history. 

Davis won the discus throw with a hurl of 40.43 meters. 

Additional Meet Highlights 

  • Corinthian Reed broke the school record and placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.77 seconds. He recorded the program's second-best time in the 200m dash and placed second in the event at 47.76 seconds. 

  • Oren Welch placed second and recorded the men's program's second-best mark in the pole vault (4.80 meters)

  • Alex Kolpien placed seventh and recorded the program's third-best mark in the pole vault (4.25 meters). 

  • Kolpien also logged Fisher's second-best javelin throw (50.23 meters). 

  • The Cardinals 4x100-meter team of Brady Bishop, Ethan Fox, Corinthian Reed and Michael Prentice recorded the program's third-best time (42.84 seconds).

  • Fisher's 4x400 team of  Brady Bishop, Adam Johnson, Michael Prentice and Corinthian Reed clocked Fisher's second-best time (3:19.69).
