LA CROSSE, Wis. – St. John Fisher University senior Brandon Kaplan achieved All-American status in the hammer throw for the second consecutive year as he capped his spectacular collegiate career on Saturday in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Kaplan placed 11th with a throw that traveled 56.91 meters, earning him second-team All-America accolades. The top eight finishers in each event at nationals earn first-team All-America honors, while those who place ninth through 16th receive second-team recognition.
Kaplan entered the national meet with the eighth-best hammer throw mark in the country at 60.07 meters, a toss he recorded during the St. John Fisher Cardinal Classic on April 25. He concludes his career as a three-time Empire 8 Conference hammer throw champion, a two-time All-Atlantic Region hammer throw champion and the Empire 8 record holder for the event with a toss of 60.87 meters.
Junior Hayden Penna also competed in the national meet on Saturday, placing 20th in the pole vault with a mark of 4.75 meters.
