PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Ed Raby Jr., St. John Fisher's new head football coach, announced his team's captains for the 2025 season on Thursday afternoon. 

That group, as voted on by the Cardinals' coaching staff and players, includes senior wide receiver Ethan Curtis, junior quarterback Ryan Whitney, junior safety Timothy Vanderbrink and junior linebacker Colin Faust. None of the four have previously been captains at the collegiate level. 

"We are very excited about our four captains for the upcoming year. Each of them did a great job in the spring of setting a standard of excellence that we desire in our program," Raby said. "All of them are great examples on and off the field of the type of leaders we aim to have in our program. Their selection is a testament to their hard work and dedication to Cardinal football, and they have earned the respect of their peers. "

Curtis missed the 2024 season due to injury but had a productive sophomore year, leading the team in receiving touchdowns (4). He finished second in pass receptions (23) and yards receiving (340). 

Whitney threw for nearly 2,000 yards with 11 touchdown passes as a first-time starter last season. He added another 311 yards with three touchdowns rushing. 

Vanderbrink had a breakout season for the Cardinals' defense in 2024, finishing second on the team with 65 tackles, four of which resulted in a loss of yards. He broke up two passes and returned an interception 43 yards for a touchdown in a Sept. 21 victory over Keystone. 

Faust appeared in seven contests in 2024. He made three tackles on the season and recovered a fumble in the end zone in an Oct. 12 victory over Hilbert. 

The Cardinals open the 2025 season on the road against Fairleigh Dickinson on Sept. 6.
