GENEVA, Ohio — St. John Fisher men's track and field junior Brandon Kaplan earned All-American status on Saturday with a top-15 finish in the hammer throw in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships at the SPIRE Institute.
Kaplan placed 14th out of 21 in the event, recording a throw of 56.34 meters to become an All-American for the first time in his collegiate career.Â
The top eight finishers in the event earned first-team All-American honors. Placers in the No. 9 to No. 16 range garnered second-team honors.Â
Kaplan's performance capped his fantastic outdoor season, during which set the Empire 8 Conference record in the hammer throw with a mark of 60.87m in the E8 Outdoor Championships on May 2. That mark shattered former NCAA Champion Luis Rivera of Nazareth University's mark of 59.22 meters, set in winning the 2015 NCAA National Championship.Â
