PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The No. 3-seeded St. John Fisher women's basketball team (19-7) faces No. 2-seeded SUNY Geneseo (20-6) at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Geneseo's Carl Schrader Gymnasium with a trip to the Empire 8 Conference title game on the line.

The St. John Fisher women's basketball team punched its ticket to the Empire 8 Semifinals with a 72-55 victory over No. 6-seeded Houghton on Saturday afternoon at the Manning and Napier Varsity Gym.

Fisher held Houghton to 35.5% overall shooting (22 of 62) and 11.1% from three (2 of 18). The Cardinals limited the Highlanders to just 26.3% shooting as they ran away with the game in the third quarter.

Kayla Camacho and Crysta Lacrosse made layups early in the third quarter to cut Houghton's deficit to five (35-30) before the Cardinals used a 15-2 run to break the game open. Senior guards Katie Moravec (seven points) and Sidney Tomasso (six points) led the Cardinals' offensive attack in that quarter.

After being held to just five points in the first half, Tomasso scored 18 in the second half to finish with 23. She also pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds as part of her 12th double-double of the season and 16th of her collegiate career.

Moravec scored 21 points while shooting 7 of 12 from the floor (2 of 4 from three) and 5 of 5 from the foul line. She also had eight rebounds and two assists.

Junior guard Presleigh Brunner finished with 15 points on 4 of 10 shooting (1 of 3 from three). She made a career-high six free throws (six attempts).

The Cardinals scored 16 points off 11 Houghton turnovers.

The Cardinals, who had issues with turnovers in losses to Russell Sage and Nazareth to end the regular season, played a much cleaner game on Saturday, finishing with just seven giveaways.
Chasing A Four-Peat

With another title, the Cardinals would become the first team in Empire 8 history to win four consecutive conference championships.

Fisher joined Ithaca as the second team in conference history to win three straight E8 titles last year.

Another E8 Player of the Year Case For Tomasso

Tomasso figures to be named Empire 8 Player of the Year for the second straight season. She leads the conference in scoring (19.7 points per game) and ranks second in rebounding (9.4 rebounds per game), 3-point shooting percentage (36.2%) and free-throw percentage (86.2%).

If named E8 Player of the Year for a second time, Tomasso would become the first player in St. John Fisher women's basketball history to win the award twice.

Tomasso leads the Empire 8 and ranks 25th in Division III in double-doubles (12). She has 16 total in her collegiate career.

Nine of Tomasso's double-doubles this season have come against Empire 8 opponents.

Tomasso has scored 20 or more points in 12 games and at least 15 in 22 games.

Tomasso had the best performance of her collegiate career in a 70-67 victory over SUNY Brockport on Feb. 8, as she scored 32 points and collected 17 rebounds. Her 32 points marked the ninth-most in a single game in St. John Fisher history, while her 17 boards marked the sixth-most by a Fisher player in a game.

She shot 10 of 21 overall, 4 of 10 from three and 8 of 9 from the free-throw line in that game. She tied her season high for 3-pointers made.

Tomasso, one of the best players in Fisher women's basketball history, ranks second in program history in free throw percentage, fourth in points scored, fifth in 3-pointers made and fifth in total field goals made.
Moravec Stuffing The Stat Sheet

Senior guard Katie Moravec has her name scattered across the top of Fisher's stat sheet, as she leads the team in assists (107) and steals (50) and ranks second in scoring (16.8 points per game) and rebounding (5.7 rebounds per game).

Moravec has tallied four or more assists in 17 of the Cardinals' 25 games, including a career-high eight twice. She's recorded four or more steals in five contests.

Moravec tied her career-high with six steals in a victory over SUNY Poly on Jan. 10.

This marks the third straight season in which Moravec has amassed more than 50 steals. She had a career-high 72 in 2022-23.
Last Time Against Geneseo

The Cardinals had their worst offensive performance of the season in a 54-41 loss to Geneseo on Feb. 2.

Geneseo beat Alfred 68-43 on Saturday to advance to the E8 Semifinals. The Knights used a 13-0 run to take control of the game in the third quarter.

Suydam, averaging 12.5 points per game, leads the Empire 8 in field goal percentage (55.2%). She's seventh in the conference in rebounding (7.3 rebounds per game).

Geneseo has allowed the fewest points per game (51.5) in the conference this season. Only two teams have reached 70 points or more in a game against the Knights (Brockport did it twice).
