UTICA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher men's basketball team lost to Utica for the second time this season on Friday, falling 89-55 to the Pioneers at the Clark Athletic Center.
The Cardinals dropped to 6-13 overall (2-8 Empire 8), while the Pioneers improved to 12-7 overall (6-4 Empire 8). Utica has won four straight games against Fisher and eight of 10 games in the series since the 2020-21 season.
Senior forward Connor Williams scored 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season. Senior guard Cole Thompson and freshman forward Maximus Michalski had eight points.
The Cardinals trailed by as many as 16 in the first half but managed to trim their deficit down to 10 by halftime. Any hope the Cardinals had of coming back quickly vanished in the second half, though, as the Pioneers led by 23 after about eight minutes. They outscored the Cardinals 51-27 in the half en route to the 34-point victory.
Dayion Thompson led Utica with 19 points on 7 of 14 shooting (5 of 9 from three). The Pioneers finished 14 of 30 (46.7%) from beyond the arc.
