UTICA, N.Y. – Freshman guard Andrew Violante scored a career-best 20 points off the bench, but it wasn't enough for the St. John Fisher men's basketball team to avoid a third straight loss on Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals dropped to 6-14 overall (2-9 Empire 8) with a 91-77 loss to SUNY Poly at Campus Center Gym. SUNY Poly, currently third in the conference standings, improved to 13-7 (8-3 E8).
How It Happened

The Cardinals fell behind by nine points early in the contest but fought their way back, eventually taking a three-point lead (25-22) with an 11-4 run.

However, SUNY Poly quickly regained the lead and ended the half up by nine, 50-41.

The Wildcats put the game out of reach midway through the second half, using a 7-3 run to go ahead by 16, 74-58, with about 10 minutes to play.

Violante set career highs in points (20), field goals made (7 of 9), free throws made (5 of 7) and rebounds (6) in a season-high 28 minutes off the bench.

Senior guard Eric Kegler scored 13 points, while senior forward Connor Williams had 10.

Issues at the free-throw line once again plagued the Cardinals, who shot 21 of 33 (63.6%) from the stripe. SUNY Poly finished 18 of 22 (81.8%).

Daimarr Miller led Poly with 25 points while shooting 8 of 11 overall, 6 of 9 from three and 3 of 4 from the free-throw line. LaMarqus Merchant Jr. had 18 on 6 of 10 shooting.
