Men's Basketball Slips Up Late Against Keuka

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher men's basketball team came undone late in a 74-72 loss to Keuka College on Friday night at Manning and Napier Varsity Gym.

The Cardinals fell to 5-11 overall and 1-6 in the Empire 8, while Keuka improved to 6-9 overall and 3-4 in the conference. The victory marked the program's first over Fisher since joining the Empire 8.

How It Happened

  • After trailing by 10 midway through the first half, the Cardinals went on a 12-0 run that lasted about five minutes to take a 25-23 lead. Senior guard Cole Thompson and freshman guard Andrew Violante made key 3-pointers in that stretch for the Cardinals.

  • Fisher and Keuka traded slim leads the rest of the half and ultimately went into the break tied at 30.

  • The Cardinals had their largest lead of the night (five points, 59-54) with eight minutes to play after senior forward Eric Kegler made a mid-range jump shot and junior guard Max Schneider made a layup off of a steal. But Keuka countered quickly, as Marcus Reed drilled consecutive 3-point shots to put the Wolves back on top 60-59.

  • Fisher let the game slip away down the stretch, turning the ball over seven times in the last five minutes of the game. The Wolves scored six points off those giveaways, all of them coming during an 8-0 run that put the Cardinals behind 70-64.

Game Notes

  • Senior forward Connor Williams scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as part of his third double-double this season. He has four in his collegiate career.

  • Freshman forward Maximus Michalski scored 12 points and made a season-high six shots from the field (on six attempts) off the bench.

  • Reed, who led Keuka with 17 points, shot 6 of 10 from the field and 3 of 5 from 3-point range. Tyler Green (13), Amar Jackson (12) and Will Tehan (10) also scored in double figures for the Wolves.
