Men's Basketball Snaps Losing Skid With 89-73 Win Over Hartwick

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher men's basketball team snapped its five-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon, beating Hartwick 89-73 at Lambros Arena. 

The Cardinals (5-10 overall, 1-5 Empire 8) won their first conference game of the season. Hartwick dropped to 2-13 overall (2-4 Empire 8). 

Senior forward/center Connor Williams led the Cardinals with 21 points and 11 rebounds. He shot 8 of 13 overall (1 of 3 from three) and 4 of 6 from the foul line.

How It Happened 

  • The Cardinals, who've fallen behind early in several of their recent games, played from in front on Saturday, leading by as many as 14 in the first half. They took an 11-point lead (51-40) into halftime. 

  • Hartwick trimmed its deficit to seven points early in the second half, but the Cardinals quickly responded with a lengthy run that pushed their lead to 20 (84-64). 

Game Notes

  • With 21 points and 11 rebounds, Williams recorded his second double-double of the season. He has three in this collegiate career. 

  • Williams' 11 rebounds marked a season high. 

  • Williams has scored 20 or more points in four games this season. 

  • The Cardinals set season highs in field goal percentage (55.9%) and assists (24). 

  • Senior forward Eric Kegler scored 17 points and recorded a season-best eight assists. He shot 6 of 12 overall (1 of 3 from three) and 4 of 5 from the free-throw line. 

  • Kegler has scored more than 15 points in each of the Cardinals' last three games. He has done that eight times in 15 games this season. 

  • Cole Thompson scored 15 points and knocked down a team-high three 3-pointers (eight attempts). Louis Fay, who went 3 of 3 from the field and 4 of 6 from the line, added 10 points. 

  • The Cardinals outscored Hartwick 40-22 in the paint.
