Strong Second Half Propels Men's Basketball To First Win Of The Season

WESTFIELD, CT – The St. John Fisher men's basketball team (1-1) won its first game of the season on Saturday, beating St. Joseph's University Long Island (0-2) 64-53 in the Rick Martin/Hampton Inn Classic consolation game at Westfield State University. 

Game Notes

  • The Cardinals, who trailed by six at halftime, outscored the Golden Eagles 34-17 in the second half. 

  • Senior forward Eric Kegler led the Cardinals in scoring for the second straight game. He had 16 points while shooting 4 of 10 from the field and 8 of 12 from the foul line. 

  • Connor Williams scored 14 points while shooting 50% (6 of 12) from the field and 2 of 2 from the foul line. The 7-foot forward also dished out three assists and blocked two shots. 

  • Junior guard Joshua Lopez scored a career-best 10 points on 4 of 9 shooting. 

  • The Cardinals had 40 points in the paint to  SJLI's 18. 

  • The Cardinals scored 13 second-chance points on nine offensive rebounds. 

  • The Cardinals finished with a 22-9 edge in bench points.
