WESTFIELD, CT — The St. John Fisher University men's basketball team opened the 2024-25 season on Friday night with an 89-65 loss to Eastern Connecticut State University in the Rick Martin/Hampton Inn Classic hosted by Westfield University.
The Cardinals (0-1) will face St. Joseph's Long Island (0-1) at noon on Saturday in the consolation game.
Senior forward Eric Kegler led the Cardinals with a career-high 17 points while shooting 7 of 14 from the field and 3 of 5 from the foul line. He also had four assists, three rebounds and blocked a shot.
Senior forward Connor Williams shot 5 of 8 overall and scored 11 points. He pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
Three Eastern Connecticut players scored at least 15 points, including Dominick Dao (19), Jalen Hamblin (18) and Julian Sanchez (15).
Eastern Connecticut scored 20 points off 20 Fisher turnovers. The Warriors also turned 11 offensive rebounds into 16 second-chance points.
