PITTSFORD, N.Y. – St. John Fisher University's men's track and field team continues its indoor season on Saturday when they head to Houghton University for the Highlander Invitational.
Events are scheduled to start at 10 a.m. in Houghton, N.Y.
Here's what you need to know:
Return to Houghton: This is the second time that the Cardinals have competed at Houghton this indoor season- they opened their campaign at the Houghton December Classic on Dec. 1, 2023. There, senior
Sean Cochrane won the high jump with a mark of 2.03m (6'7.75"), the highest for anyone in Division III this season so far. His teammate, Bryant Depaull, finished second in the event with a mark of 1.92m (6'3.5").
Conference Leaders: Cochrane isn't the only Cardinal to lead the Empire 8 with a performance this season. Senior distance runner
Ethan Billings has the best time in the conference in the 3000 meters, running a 8:47.21 in at the Nazareth Alumni Opener on Dec. 8. In fact, the Cardinals hold the top four times in the conference in the event, as Billings is joined by junior
Riley Nash (9:01.96), freshman
Jace Stuart (9:08.27), and junior Nate Kulp (9:08.58) on the leaderboard. Freshman pole vaulter
Hayden Penna, meanwhile, is tied for the top spot in his event after reaching a height of 4.30m (14'1.25") at the Nazareth Alumni Opener.
Hot On Their Heels: Senior Anthony Dirubbo ran a 4:29.77 mile at the Nazareth Alumni Opener, the second best of any Empire 8 indoor runner this season so far. Senior
Trenton Wynn has the second-best Empire 8 mark in the Triple Jump, with a distance of 13.06m (42'10.25'').
What Comes Next: After Houghton, the Cardinals head to Nazareth on Saturday, Jan. 27 for the Conference Cup Challenge.
