Women's Basketball | 12/8/2023 12:38:00 PM

PITTSFORD, N.Y. The St. John Fisher University women's basketball team looks to head into the winter break with their fourth straight win on Saturday when they host SUNY Cortland.

The Cardinals (6-2, 2-0 in Empire 8) are coming off their largest win of the season, a 110-25 victory over Penn State Berks on Tuesday that was the biggest margin of victory for the team in over a year.

Saturday's game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Manning & Napier Varsity Gym.

Here's what you need to know:

Last Time Out
After falling behind in the first minute of Tuesday's road game, the Cardinals soon tied and then pulled ahead against the Lions. They led by 20 at the end of the first quarter and only increased their lead going forward until ending the game with an 85-point victory. Freshman forward Joleen Lusk scored 18 points in 15 minutes, averaging 1.2 points per minute in the win. Junior Sidney Tomasso had 13 points with 10 rebounds. Defensively, senior Lauren Nawojski had a career-high five blocks.

Know Your Foe
The Red Dragons are members of the SUNYAC conference, although their football team plays with Fisher in the Empire 8. In women's basketball, the Cardinals are 15-5 all-time against Cortland, although they lost the most recent matchup back in the 2010-2011 season, 67-56. Cortland enters Saturday's game with a 4-2 record, including an undefeated 2-0 record in their conference. They've won their last three games, defeating Hartwick, Plattsburgh, and Potsdam.

Senior forward Logan Streety leads the Red Dragons offensively, averaging 15.3 points per game. She also leads the team in rebounds per game (8.2) and total blocks (three). Defensively, Cortland's steals leader is freshman Mariah Huss, with 14.

Home Cooking
Saturday is the final home game for the Cardinals in the calendar year of 2023. They've gone 10-1 at Manning & Napier between the last months of the 2022-23 season and the early part of this season, their lone loss coming against Ithaca on Nov. 28.

Player To Watch
The same starting five have opened all eight games this season for the Cardinals, but bench players have also contributed. Among them is freshman guard Madeline Ramsgard, who has averaged 16 minutes of play per game this season, the highest outside the starting five. The Skaneateles native leads Fisher bench players with 31 points, and her 25 rebounds is fourth on the team overall.

Up Next
The Cardinals return to action on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, playing Roger Williams University and William Paterson University, respectively, in Springfield, Mass.
