ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University wrestling team stayed local to compete in the local RIT Invitational hosted by RIT.
Carl Santariello was the top performer for the Cardinals. He battled in the 125-pound weight class and came away with a fifth place finish. After starting with a bye, he defeated his first opponent by way of pinfall at the 1:03 mark. He followed that with a 17-2 technical fall victory, before dropping his third matchup. He won his fifth place match by way of medical forfeit.
In the 141-pound bracket,
Luke Yorke scored points for the Cardinals after earning a few victories. He started with a 5-4 decision victory and after a loss, he went on to win back-to-back matches by way of pinfall. The first was in under one minutes (0:53) and then he followed it with a win in 2:49.
Torin Bishop added a pair of wins on the day, both were by pinfall with the first being in 3:35 and the next coming in 2:36.
Trevor Sheehan and
Nathan Coon also secured wins for the team, Sheehan earning a pinfall in 6:04 in the 157-pound class , while Coon secured a 17-1 technical fall win in the 184-pound class.
Up next for the Cardinals is the Red Dragon Duals. SUNY Cortland will host the Cardinals who will also take on Alfred State College and SUNY Brockport. Competition is slated to begin at 12 p.m.
