PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Ten St. John Fisher wrestlers will compete in the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships this weekend at Ithaca College's Athletics and Events Center. Friday's competition will begin at 11 a.m., while Saturday's action will start at 10 a.m.
The top three placers in each weight class will earn an automatic bid to the 2026 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Cardinals last had a national qualifier in 2024, when Alex Samson earned All-America status at 141 pounds with an eighth-place finish.
Last Time At Regionals
The Cardinals had six wrestlers earn All-Region status in last year's tournament, in which they finished eighth as a team with 78 points. Daniel Parkulo (125, 5th place), Derek Bernardino (133, 8th place), Trevor Bishop (141, 5th place), Paul Lichter (157, 5th place), Braydon Vandenberg (197, 5th place) and Jackson Burns (285, 5th place) placed for Fisher.
The Lineup (regional rankings from the National Wrestling Coaches Association included)
Carl Santariello (Sr., 125 pounds) – Santariello enters the regional tournament with a 12-5 overall record. He has won three matches by technical, two by major decision and six by decision. Santariello placed fifth in the Ursinus College Racich Rumble to start the season.
Derek Bernardino (Sr., 133 pounds) – Bernardino boasts a 14-8 record with two wins by fall, two by technical fall and three by decision. He claimed second place in the 133-pound bracket in the competitive RIT Invite back in December.
Luke Yorke (Jr., 141 pounds) – Yorke, 14-8 on the season, has posted six wins by decision, three each by major decision and technical fall and two by fall. In Fisher's 31-10 dual win over Brockport earlier this month, Yorke beat Michael Santoro, ranked fifth in the region at 141 pounds, 4-2 by decision.
Trevor Bishop (So., 149 pounds, ranked No. 4 in region) – One of the most dominant wrestlers in the region, Bishop enters regionals with an 18-2 overall mark. He leads the Cardinals with 16 bonus-point wins on nine pins, four technical falls and three major decisions. Bishop has not lost since falling 1-0 by decision to Caleb Seyfried, ranked No. 2 at 149 pounds in Region I, in the RIT Invite in December.
Paul Lichter (Jr., 157 pounds, ranked No. 2 in region) – Lichter, who also has not lost since the RIT tournament in December, enters the postseason with an 18-3 record. He has five technical falls, three falls and three major decisions for 12 bonus-point victories.
Trevor Sheehan (Sr., 165, ranked No. 8 in region) – Sheehan has compiled a 12-2 record while starting for the Cardinals at 165 pounds this season. He has eight bonus-point wins, including five by fall.
Dylan Devine (Jr., 174 pounds, ranked No. 4 in region) – Devine owns a 10-9 record on the season and has eight bonus-point wins to his credit. He's earned three wins by fall, two each by technical fall and major decision and two by decision.
Charlie Rossner (So., 184 pounds) – Rossner has an 8-10 overall record entering the Mideast Regional. He placed fifth in the SUNYAC Wrestling Championships last month, winning three of his four matches on the back side of the bracket, including one by fall.
Braydon Vandenberg (Sr., 197 pounds, ranked No. 5 in region) – Vandenberg, 18-4 on the year, is second on the team with 14 bonus-point victories. He has nine wins by fall (tied for second on the team), three by major decision and one by technical fall. The senior has also claimed four matches by decision.
Nathan Coon (Sr., 285 pounds) – Coon owns a 6-7 overall record. Two of his four victories in January's SUNYAC tournament came via fall.
