PITTSFORD, N.Y. – After going 1-0-1 last week, the St. John Fisher University women's soccer team hosts Houghton this Saturday for Senior Day.
The Cardinals played rival Nazareth to a scoreless draw last Wednesday, before returning home and beating Sage College on Saturday, 1-0, on the strength of a goal by junior
Kate Rachwal.
Fisher is currently 3-0-3 in conference play this year and 6-3-4 overall. Their second place spot in the Empire 8 standings would mean a first-round bye into the semifinals in the Empire 8 tournament if the season ended today.
Spel-ing Trouble For The E8: Junior
Emma Spelman has been on fire during conference play this season. The junior from Hilton has notched nine of her 11 points for the season in games against Empire 8 foes, including two of her three goals and all five of her assists.
History Lesson: Fisher is 4-5-2 against Houghton since 2005, but is on a three-game win streak that includes a 2-0 win last season on Houghton's home turf behind goals from
Emma Osterhoudt and
Jenn Kirker.
The Cardinals haven't lost a game to Houghton since Sept. 16, 2016- every game since has been a win or a draw.
Player to Watch: Sophomore
Ryann Dauksza's defensive play is not easily captured on a stat sheet, but she's played and started all 13 games for a Fisher squad that has held opponents to an average of just .92 goals per game- the third best in the conference. She has also contributed offensively with a goal and an assist.
