PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Coming off a 1-0-1 week, the St. John Fisher University women's soccer team continues Empire 8 play this week, traveling to rival Nazareth University before hosting Sage College.
The Cardinals are currently 2-0-2 in the Empire 8 and 5-3-3 overall after defeating Keuka, 5-2, before drawing at Hartwick, 2-2. That places them third in the conference standings, behind Utica and Nazareth and just ahead of Sage. The top six teams qualify for the Empire 8 tournament, which begins Oct. 28.
The road game at Nazareth on Wednesday begins at 4:00 p.m., while Saturday's home game against Sage is set for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
Magic Spelman: Junior
Emma Spelman had five points for the Cardinals last week, scoring a goal and three assists. The Hilton graduate is currently tied for third in the conference in total points (11) and is also third in points-per-game (1.13).
Not-So-Neighborly Naz, but Success Against Sage: The Cardinals have traditionally struggled against Nazareth, going 1-17-3 since 2005. However, they played the Golden Flyers to a 1-1 draw last season, with
Siobhan McMakin scoring for Fisher.
St. John Fisher is 4-1-1 against Sage College since 2005, including victories over the Gators the last two seasons. The Cardinals have won both home games against Sage by a combined score of 7-2.
Player to Watch: Midfielder
Kayla Rhude scored twice in last week's 5-2 win over Keuka and added an assist in the Hartwick draw. The Ilion, N.Y. native is just a point away from matching her career high of six, set the past two seasons.
