ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Graduate thrower
Jordan Lehman highlighted the St. John Fisher College women's track and field team at Sunday's ROC City Final Qualifier, hosted by Nazareth College, with a victory in the hammer throw.
The lone Cardinal to finish atop the podium on Sunday, Lehman turned in her second-best performance of the season in the hammer throw at 48.03 meters. It was her first victory in the event since taking home the title at the 2021 Empire 8 Conference Championships last May.
Lehman's All-Atlantic Regional Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) qualifying effort was one five recorded by the Cardinals on Sunday.
In a three-way tie for fifth place,
Alondra Arroyo cleared 3.20 meters in the pole vault, just shy of her personal record of 3.21 meters. It's the fourth time Arroyo has achieved the AARTFC height this spring.
With a third-place showing in the 100-meter hurdle finals,
Ciarra Franz was one-hundredth of a second shy of her PR. Her time of 14.67 seconds ranks among the top 10 among all sprinters who've earned a berth in the upcoming Atlantic Regional Championships.
Both
Samantha Shea and
Gracie Wright finished in the top 10 in the 400-meter dash, and both recorded AARTFC times. For Shea, the junior who ran the 400 in the Division III Indoor National Championships in March, her time of 57.16 seconds was a new PR. Shea came in third place, while Wright (58.07s) was sixth out of 12 sprinters.
Mid-distance student-athletes
Alivia Collins and
Taylor Highers represented the Cardinals in the 800- and 1,500-meter races. Collins was eighth in the 800 at 2:27.75, a new personal best. Highers was fourth in the 1,500 after completing the course in 5:09.11.
Four-tenths of a second shy of an AARTFC time in the 400-meter hurdles,
Megan McAllister earned a sixth-place finish on Sunday at 1:07.90.
The final footrace to feature a Fisher runner was the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Sophomore
Angelea Collins turned in a fourth-place effort at 13:04.43 seconds.
Rounding out the field events were
Claudia Vogel in the high jump and
Lyndsay O'Brien in the shot put. Vogel, a sophomore from Charlton, New York, logged a new PR in the high jump at 1.50 meters, an improvement of .05 meters from last week's E8 Championships. O'Brien tossed the shot 10.02 meters on her third attempt, placing 12th overall.
On Wednesday, May 18, and Thursday, May 19, the Cardinals who qualified for the 2022 Atlantic Regional Championships throughout the outdoor season will travel to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, to compete on the campus of Moravian University.
