GENESEO, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's track and field team sent three sprinters to the final day of competition at SUNY Geneseo's Quad meet and all three Cardinals returned home record-breaking performances.
Senior
Samantha Shea and freshman
Gracie Wright both beat the previous program record in the outdoor 400-meter dash, which was set six years ago by Morgan Mastin (57.96). Shea placed third overall with a time of 57.44, a mere 0.43 seconds ahead of Wright (57.87) in fifth place. Both times qualify for the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships and place the duo among the top 40 in Division III.
Standout freshman
Ciarra Franz, who entered the meet with the 33rd-best 100-meter hurdle time in Division III, broke her own team record at today's event. The Pittsford, New York, native was the only athlete to break the 15-second mark and won the event in 14.66 seconds. Ashley Heffernan, the runner-up from the University of Rochester, trailed by 0.71 seconds (15.37).
Shea, Wright, and Franz will lead the Cardinals into their final regular-season meet of the 2022 outdoor schedule, the University of Rochester Spring Classic, on Saturday, April 30.
