GENESEO, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher College women's track and field team returned to Geneseo, New York, for the second time this spring to participate in SUNY Geneseo's It's Nice Out Invitational on Monday afternoon.

Freshman Ciarra Franz had a pair of standout performances in both the 100-meter dash and 100-meter hurdles. Franz was the runner-up in both events, as she logged a time of 12.58 seconds in the dash and 14.71 in the hurdles, both of which qualify for the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships.

Alongside with Franz, sophomore Michaela Kurbs secured an AARTFC in the 100-meter dash. Kurbs was fractions of a second behind her teammate, placing third at 12.65 seconds.

In the 200-meter dash, Kurbs (26.51) and Gracie Wright (26.63) were separated by only two places, as the former was fifth with a new personal record and the latter came in seventh. Wright was also Fisher's top runner in the 400-meter dash in third with an AARTFC qualifying time of 58.76 seconds.

Senior Megan McAllister set a personal record in the 400-meter hurdles. Her time of 1:09.28 was 1.19 seconds quicker than her performance at SUNY Geneseo's Early Season Invitational on April 2 and earned her a fourth-place finish.

In the field events, Kurbs and first-year student-athlete Veronica Duell both achieved AARTFC marks in the long jump. Duell, the runner-up, recorded a distance of 5.58 meters, while Kurbs posted a mark of 5.32 meters.

In a pair of throwing events, Makenna King had a tremendous afternoon, locking up AARTFC bids in both the shot put and discus. King won the shot put with a distance of 11.93 meters and was second in the discus at 41.03 meters, a new PR.

Fisher's Claudia Vogel also picked up an individual victory in her first-ever attempt at the javelin. The sophomore from Charlton, New York, won the event at 25.15 meters, surpassing Geneseo's Katie Mullady by 1.19 meters.

The Cardinals have a busy weekend ahead. On Friday, April 15, the team will split up for two events, the Brockport Spring Invitational and Bucknell's Bison Outdoor Classic in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
