3/11/2022 5:09:00 PM

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Following an outstanding performance on the track, Samantha Shea of the St. John Fisher College women's track and field team saw the season come to an end at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships at the JDL Fast Track.

A transfer senior, Shea made her first collegiate appearance on the national stage for today's 400-meter run. Going into the race seeded 20th at a season-best time of 58.21 seconds, Shea set out to make a name for herself and represent Western New York by improving her standing.

Shea made a smooth exit from the blocks in heat two, which was stacked with some of the nation's top talent – two competitors of which qualified for tomorrow's final round of the 400-meter run. The North Tonawanda native made it through the race's first 200 meters in 27.435 seconds, which led to a 30.932-second final 200 meters – the ninth best split of the day. Her final time of 58.37 seconds was good enough for 17th place overall and was her third-best time of the year.

The Fisher program record holder, Empire 8 Individual Champion and All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) bronze medal holder in the 400-meter this indoor season will look to improve upon her times for the looming outdoor season with her first national appearance under her belt.

Tomorrow, she will cheer on her teammate, Kyle Rollins, who will compete for both the high jump and triple jump national championships at 11 A.M. and 2 P.M., respectively.
