PITTSFORD, NY – The St. John Fisher University women's soccer team will take on Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) at Growney Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 4 before heading to Albany for an Empire 8 matchup against Russell Sage College on Sunday, Oct. 9.
Fisher enters the week 4-1-3 and 2-0 in Empire 8 play which is good for second place in the conference. They are behind Russell Sage who is 4-5-1 and 3-0 in the E8. The Tigers enter the week with a record of 5-2-2. Fisher has won two straight games in shutout fashion, while RIT has tied their last two games 0-0. Sage beat Keuka College this weekend to give them a one-game win streak.
Defense Wins (Empire 8) Championships: Entering play this week, Fisher leads the Empire 8 in save percentage at 0.833. Through eight games played, Fisher has only allowed seven goals this season, besting Nazareth and Alfred University, who have allowed 11 goals through nine games played.
First year goalie Avery Brynes recorded three saves in Fisher's shutout win over Houghton this week, her fifth shutout this season.
Last time they met: Fisher will look for the win over RIT this season after falling to them by a final score of 4-0 in last season's game. Looking for a big win this week, Fisher is looking to snap a nine-game losing streak against the Tigers.
Last year, Fisher overpowered Russell Sage, scoring four goals.
Emma Osterhoudt,
Tori Cruz, and
Emma Spelman each had a goal in the win. Osterhoudt added an assist to go along with her goal. Meanwhile, Spelman tallied three assists.
Player to Watch: This week's player to watch is Osterhoudt. The sophomore took three shots and scored a goal in the win over Houghton this week. On the season, the forward has two goals on nine shots with three shots on goal to total four points.
