HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's indoor track and field squad got back to business on Friday evening as the Cardinals traveled to Houghton College for the Highlanders' annual early season invitational inside the Kerr-Pegula Field House.
Lauren DeMichele got the evening kicked off on the right foot as she sped to a first-place finish in the mile where she crossed the finish line in 5:41.92, followed up by
Alivia Collins who finished in 5:55.24 and placed fourth.
Newcomer
Gracie Wright found herself in the top five in two races over the course of the evening as she placed fifth in the 200-meter dash at 27.38 seconds before turning around to lead the Fisher charge in the 400-meter run for a second-place finish at 1:01.74. She was followed up by three straight Cardinals in
Megan McAllister,
Breanna Lambert, and
Ada Sylvester who went 5-6-7.
Another flock of Fisher runners grouped up to take third, fifth, and sixth places in the 800-meter run as
Marinna Raqueno paced the group with a 2:44.45 finish while freshman
Riley Jameson took the next spot at 2:48.74 and junior
Grace Cummings wrapped up the finishers less than a second later at 2:49.41 – a personal best time.
The relays teams finished up the top finishes for the Cardinals for the night as both the 4x200 team and 4x400 teams earned third-place finishes. The 4x200 team of
Claudia Vogel,
McKenna Cone,
Michaela Kurbs, and
Logan Fredrickson finished in 1:57.81 while the 4x400 relay squad of
Olivia Pawlewicz,
Hayly Fredrickson,
Brenda Le, and
Ashley Holt crossed the finish line in 4:37.33.
In the throwers pit,
Makenna King turned heads in her sophomore debut as she threw for personal bests in both the weight throw and shot put – taking second place in the latter event at a mark of 11.21 meters, which she tossed on her first attempt. Additionally,
Elizabeth Izydorczak put together Fisher's best performance in the weight throw with a mark off 12.88 meters.
Freshman
Veronica Duell made an impressive introduction in the long jump as she finished in fifth place at 5.23 meters while classmates
Hayly Fredrickson and
Emily Frech tied for third place in the pole vault by clearing a height of 2.30 meters.
Fisher has one more meet before the semester break, as they head down East Avenue to Nazareth College next Friday, December 10th for the Golden Flyers' Early Season Invite.
