ALFRED, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team fell in Empire 8 conference play to the Saxons of Alfred University, 3-0. With the loss the Cardinals dropped to 6-5-3 overall and fell to 2-2-2 in the conference. The Saxons moved to 10-6 on the year and advanced to 3-4 in the Empire 8.
Alfred got on the board to begin the game just shy of the fifth minute of play to put the Saxons up, 1-0. Just a minute and half later, the Saxons came down the field and put a second ball into the back of the net.
Goalkeeper Melissa McGowan stopped a single Alfred shot in the first 45 minutes of play to keep the Cardinals at a 2-0 deficit at the half.
The two teams traded shots for a good part of the second half before Alfred slipped a third goal past the Fisher defense in the 73rd minute.
The Cardinals put up a fight, but would eventually fall to the Saxons at the end of regulation.
Elise Olivo wrapped up the night with a team-high two shots in the match, while Carli Kovarik and Abigail Barr each added a shot apiece.
McGowan suffered the loss in net and registered a lone stop before Kayla Shutts would come in to relieve the senior.
Fisher jumps right back into Empire 8 conference action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24th as the Cardinals head to Utica College to take on the Pioneers.
